Chairman’s Newsletter

January 2022

First of all, a very happy and healthy new year to all Art Circle members. Although 2022 hasn’t exactly got off to a good start let’s hope we can soon all return to something like our pre-Covid 19 lives. The thing I have missed most during this pandemic is that certain carefree feeling only children and retirees seem to be able to enjoy.

Summer Exhibition – Art on the Railings

I am pleased to report that this joint outdoor exhibition (The East Suffolk Plein Air Painters, ESPAP, with the Southwold Art Circle) raised £1,450. This money will be distributed to local charities. Wil Harvey and Jim Power, of the ESPAP, joined me at Gun Hill on a wet and windy morning to hand over the cheque to the Chairman of The Southwold Trust. The event was recorded and there should be a photograph in the January edition of The Southwold Gazette.

News of the President and Chairman

After much thought Jack Stephenson, our President, has reluctantly decided to give up his post because of health concerns and, like all committed artists, a wish to preserve precious painting time. Jack no longer feels he can devote as much time and energy to the Art Circle as he would wish. It goes without saying his contribution to the club has been immense. He will be missed. I have been extremely fortunate to have benefitted from his vast knowledge and experience during the period of my chairmanship. I know Jack will continue to support the Art Circle with his customary generosity albeit from the side lines.

It has been my privilege to be Chairman of The Art Circle for twelve years now. That is long enough. It is therefore time to move on so I will be stepping aside in April, at the next AGM. Thank you to everyone for their support and encouragement.

Final Quotes

“You can look at some pictures for a week and never think of them again. You can also look at a picture for a second and think of it all your life”.

Joan Miro.

Please stay safe,

Best wishes,

Andrew
